HANDI*CAMP

A swim in the pool is a highlight of the dayHandi*Camp, a ministry of BCM International (Canada) is an overnight camp program for children (6-13) and teenagers (14-19) who have primarily a physical disability and are working at approximate age and academic levels. Handi*Camp is dedicated to building up Christian character through spiritual, emotional and physical experiences in a safe and accessible environment.

Camp Staff

Camp staff members are hired as counsellors and activity leaders only after undergoing a careful application and screening process. The staff have a variety of educational backgrounds and experiences working with people with disabilities. When needed we provide a 1:1 staff/camper ratio and care is taken to make sure that all staff are prepared and able to meet the physical needs of the campers.

All aspects of the Handi*Camp program are planned to meet the needs of our campers and adapted so that every camper can fully participate in each activity offered during camp. The activities are planned to help campers enjoy a variety of experiences, discover their gifts and develop their abilities. Time is set aside for campers to interact with one another to help meet their need for social interaction and peer fellowship.

Camper safety in all aspects is our priority and is stress to our staff during our pre-camp sessions and during the camp week.

Learning

The camp program includes an emphasis on meeting the spiritual as well as the physical needs of the individual camper. This accomplished through daily Bible classes, drama, games and devotional times. Each year we have an exciting new theme that is woven into the Bible lessons, group activities and special events.

Handi*Camp is committed to creating an atmosphere where the campers are inspired to grow spiritually, physically, intellectually and socially through an environment of love, respect and encouragement.

Handi*Camp is held at Mill Stream Bible Retreat Centre, Omemee, ON. for 1 week in August of each year.
